Happy Holidays Christmas
2008 from the York Family Peace to you and your family, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We hope everyone has had a blessed year of thanks. We have had quite an emotional year filled with job uncertainty, new schools, 6 camping trips including Kentucky Lake, Lake of Ozarks, Onondaga Cave and Defeated Creek, three plays, swimming, basketball, dance, and spending time with family. Our big milestones this year were Rachel starting high School and Jacob starting Kindergarten. Rachel and Sarah’s three plays this year of Cats, Wonderland and Babes in Toyland have been very rewarding and the youth theatre is now their extended family. We had an awesome vacation with the York family, and went on a mission trip with St. Charles Presbyterian in Kayenta, Arizona on a Navajo Reservation. We worked very hard building a fence, painting, cleanup, and bonding with
the Navajo and then got to go to the amazing Grand Canyon.
Rachel turns 15 in February is thinking about driving, and is having an awesome time in high school. She loves being in a brand new high school and is active in choir and freshman basketball. She was confirmed this year in church, and loves hanging out with church youth no matter what they do. Juggling the basketball team, youth activities at church, school work and the plays has been crazy. Rachel loves being a part of theatre and looks forward to the next play. She had a great year with swim team the highlight being a dual between
sisters going head to head. Sarah is 12½ and in is 7th grade. Sarah is having a great year at school she continues her dancing, swim team, playing flute in the band and most importantly, youth theatre. Sarah’s recital this year was extra special for Dad because he got to hold Sarah during the ballet part of the program. Sarah loves being in theatre with Rachel and is looking forward to the next play this season, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” starting in January. Sarah’s band concert was outstanding and her class shined brightly. Sarah also had to juggle dance, youth activities at church, school work
and the three plays.
Jacob is 6 and has really excelled in kindergarten this year.
Mom has created a fun network of playing whose house we are going to
today with Jacob’s numerous friends at church and in kindergarten.
Jacob is learning to read well and is a very logical kid.
A famous quote this year is, “How can I watch my mouth if I can’t
even see it?” Jacob was a Ninja for Halloween, and has moved his alliance from
Spider Man to Star Wars and Lego’s. Jacob
enjoys riding bikes, playing T-ball and tennis and had a great year playing
basketball at the YMCA with his Dad as coach. Dara continues to enjoy working as a Medical Transcriptionist.
She now has a new schedule with Jacob in Kindergarten in the morning.
We continue our fun work of foster home for dogs and find it challenging
but very rewarding. To see a family
have such joy over a dog we foster is so rewarding.
We just successfully placed our 25th dog.
Our adopted dog Chloe is even better than we imagined.
Dara is taking on more responsibility leading Prime Time this
spring at church and is having fun doing the planning.
Never a dull moment at the York house!!
Paul has had a roller coaster of a year at work but has enjoyed the challenges. After A.G. Edwards was bought by Wachovia, Paul found a new position as an IT Manager at Wachovia Securities. As of January Wachovia will become Wells Fargo, and in early 2009 he will know what opportunities he may have. One of Paul’s highlights this year was taking all three kids to school on one day. Paul is very active as an Elder at St. Charles Presbyterian church, leads the Men’s Group, plays basketball on Sunday nights, sings in the choir, and helps with Wednesday night church activities. He stays busy doing parent duties for the theatre, coaching Jacob in basketball and in leading the summer swim team.
